US Tony Awards postponed over coronavirus concerns

The 74th Annual Tony Awards is postponed over coronavirus concerns.

The 74th Annual Tony Awards has been postponed amid concerns over the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19).

The event aims to praise the best theater productions of the year as well as Broadway productions.

The event takes part in the New York City in the US, but with the outbreak of coronavirus; more than 17000 cases of coronavirus has been confirmed in the city.

A statement considering the postponing of the event reads “the health and safety of the Broadway community, artists and fans is of the utmost importance to us. We will announce new dates and additional information once Broadway opens again”.

A new date for the event has not been set yet.

The flu-like deadly coronavirus originated in China in late 2019 and later spread to more than 100 other countries around the globe.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared the virus a global pandemic.
